Vine, the popular video sharing service by Twitter, is finally available on Android. Beginning today, the app – which was previously only available on iOS, can now be downloaded from the Google Play Store for free. With the availability on Android, the Vine community is set to expand exponentially from its current 13 million registered user base.
However, the new release for Android is missing some key features that is found on iOS, such as support for the front-facing camera, search, mentions and hashtags, and the ability to share to Facebook. The Verge also found that videos take a lot longer to process compared to the iOS version. On the other hand, Vine for Android adds a zoom feature that is not found on iOS, and has promised to not only make the app just as polished as on iOS, but also to add features “that could exist only on Android”.
